Available for sale online? I haven't used it in a few years, have the T all upgraded and a Rotel setup as well, so this has been sitting and sum one else needs to enjoy it. In other words, the RA is a handsome beast with everything needed to anchor an affordable hifi — not mid-fi — audio system. Even the HK and Marantz will sound better with the Rotel amp and you would come in under budget. The e was a donor, the boards are the same but the e has some power supply regulation and other bits missing, for the Power Envelope circuitry, otherwise they are similar and share the same tuner section which is a separate board on top of the In other words, the RA is a handsome beast with everything needed to anchor an affordable hifi — not mid-fi — audio system. I did sum checking and this is an upgrade able unit via the MCD design.

1988 NAD 7225PE Stereo AM/FM Power Envelope tuner 25 watts per channel

David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done. Thank you to everyone for their support. Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally.

I have started a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills. Please help, if you can. Discussion in ' Solid State ' started by Earcraft , Dec 20, Log in or Sign up. Messages: 42 Location: Springfield, OH. Aside from a couple intro level college electronics courses WAY to long ago I am green. The sound has dulled and the dynamics have decreased. I read, it shares the same basic amplifier design as the … but I have one of those.

I thought it might be fun to upgrade the unit by adding in the missing parts. The e Transformer is missing the 40V rail that powers the PE circuit. As I mentioned, there have been some bumps thru the years. I looked into the unit to see a resistor glowing red through the grill. I had it repaired at the high end audio shop where I bought it. They hacked it back to working but there is some ugly PCB damage and a few traces went up in smoke.

Pictures attached. There are two other symptoms that I will need to address. First, the FM tuner has lost the ability to lock onto a station when scanning. I am hoping that can be resolved with simple adjustments. The second is the unit blows the 4A fuses after power outages or reconnects with the power switch on. I am hoping the recap fixes that. Last edited: Dec 20, Earcraft , Dec 20, Here are my plans for this project: 1 I would like to give it the Leesonic treatment.

None of which are low leak. The results were great no regrets but I was drinking Koolaid rather than using science. I really want to choose the best cap for the circuit this time. I had good results doing this on the so why not?

No really, why should I not do this?. This might be difficult since the service manual only lists [1] transformer The model in my unit is I also would rather buy a known working transformer rather than a scraped receiver.

Does anyone have a copy that does? If not, I am going to need some help, choosing the right caps. I was thinking about epoxy on the top side to fill in the pitting and strengthen the board then re-drill the holes. As for the traces, I have no clue. Thanks in advance for the help! Messages: 8, Location: Canandaigua, NY. What you need to do is be sure the burned area of board isn't conductive.

I use a curved X-Acto knife blade and scrape until I hit less charred material. Sometimes you can measure the char with a DVM! Sometimes, maybe in this case, it isn't as bad as it looks. Anyway, then I fill the hollowed out area with epoxy. Avoid 5-minute for it be garbage. Find some clear overnight cure stuff like Devcon 2-ton or if you want to order something superior to most else, Hysol Make sure whatever you use is claimed to be thixotropic, meaning it won't run all over the place.

I remake traces with medium weight buss wire or sometimes silver plated wire stripped from Teflon cable. As you've found, it can sometimes be hard to add unstuffed features! I'd fix anything fixable before a major recap or rebuild, particularly that power-up issue. That suggests some start-up delay circuit, soft-start feature, or maybe just bad caps somewhere.

Welcome to the bench! ConradH , Dec 20, Messages: 5, Location: Southern NJ. Hey Scott, Unfortunately, transformers on their own don't come up for sale that often, your best bet would be finding a parts unit.

If the has the same power supply rail voltages as the , it might work, but only you can find out if it would physically fit. Without checking the schematic, it looks like the burnt out resistor was part of the power supply for the preamp and early stages of the power amp.

I'm guess this by the proximity to the uf caps, plus the other end goes to a transistor with a heatsink. I wonder what happened to make that resistor burn out? There's no reason why you couldn't leave the leads longer, and hard wire it where it needs to go. The only snag here is there is nothing physically locating it like a pair of solder pads. I'll see if I can find a schematic and see where might be a good idea to put KL caps.

Earcraft , Dec 21, I should finish getting all my notes into the spreadsheet this weekend. When done, I will have a comprehensive list of all the e components that is WAY more accurate than the service manual. It is amazing to me how many parts are missing or wrong from the SM parts list.

My shopping list will follow probably next week. I put my helpers to work cleaning the PCB see picts and soon after started removing the charred parts. As ConradH eluded, the damage was not as bad as I had expected. I picked away the bad stuff with the exatco knife and finished off with a Dremel burr bit.

After taping the board, I filled the holes. I would like to upgrade the ceramics where it makes sense and will probably be asking for opinions on that soon. Before 1. Before 2. Before 3. Before 4. Earcraft , Jan 2, Is there an upgraded replacement for the auto reset breakers E,? The manual calls for 3. The breakers I just pulled off are fine, just old. Is there new technology that might protect better and still fit , or should I just put the old ones back in?

After 1. After 2. NewGuy 1. NewGuy 2. Last edited: Jan 2, I have been going through the component list and cross-referencing caps, resistors, and transistors. I have my shopping list almost ready to go, and now I need some advice. I have cross-referenced, the best I can, for all the transistors that are obsolete. The manual shows it as a J and I have a few of those, however, unlike my the e does not suffer from turn on noise.

Other than the transistor, that circuit is essentially the same as the original. Earcraft , Jan 25, There are many threads on this topic. Since Q went up in smoke on my e years ago, I am a bit paranoid and would like to take steps to keep them running cool.

Lee recommended the replacement last year and they are working great.

NAD PE in all its glory. Courtesy Canuck Audiomart. NAD New Acoustic Dimension was founded in England in the early s with a philosophy of focusing on the sound first. Components were there to perform, not to shine. Their vision allowed for a high-end sound and lower-end prices but resulted in some dumpy looks — amps and components were uniformly greyish squat boxes with small plastic buttons popping out here and there. The aesthetic was definitely in contrast to the bombastic shiny metallic space-race instruments on display from Japanese brands of the time.
