Thread starter gtrfinder Start date Jan 8, Messages 3, I recently purchased a parts Strat that had some of these pickups which were taken out of a Squier Strat. I'm going to use the guitar as part of a cover band and just needed something relatively cheap and workable in a real life gig situation.

I got the guitar cheap enough that I figured I could replace the pickups within my budget, but after playing them I'm going to leave them in there. I can be as much of an AVH as anybody here, and truth be told my other Fenders are old vintage Teles, but in a real world situation I'd rather take the cheap Strat out and not have to worry about it on the gig. So, from my perspective, don't be afraid to try some different options with regard to pickups. You might find something unexpected that you really like.

Messages 15, If u r talking about the squier classic vibe line, this is already a well known thing. They use tonerider pickups and are quite good compared to other stock pickups.

However, while they sound good for what they are, they never quite stand up to a good fender pickup like the nocaster or 62 customs i have in my teles. I have a tonerider tele bridge pup i had in my classic 50's tele till i was able to receive a fender nocaster for it. The tonerider was easily better than the stock, but the nocaster was easily better than the tonerider.

Then i got a 60's tele and same thing happened with a custom 62 fender pickup On the other hand if u r totally happy as is, why bother. If you don't know what you're missing you aren't missing anything!

And they certainly are great for what they are. Messages Some people rag on Duncan Designed pickups, but as I understand it from the company itself, they are made with the exact same materials and processes as a standard Duncan pup, just done overseas.

Maybe another case of some folks listening with their eyes? Messages 1, If it works for you then don't worry what people say. DustyRhodesJr Member. Messages 11, I think those come in guitars from the Vintage Modified line. I have a Squier Deluxe Strat with those pups in it and they sound fine. I put a dummy coil in to kill the hum and the thing sounds really good. Polynitro Member.

Messages 23, XmasTree Member. Messages 4, Messages 9, I bought an MIM Strat to flip. It had Classic Vibe 50's alnico pickups. They sounded brittle and thin. I would have preferred the stock MIM ceramics. I didn't really care much. I flipped the guitar quickly.

It's hard to beat good quality pickups, whether they're mass market brands like Seymore Duncan or DiMarrzio, or boutique. They really do sound better.

I asked for metal tones and he sold me a nice firebird bridge pup even though he made a good classic neck, the modern bridge was total metal, upper mids and lower treble! I have had almost any strat for cheap that did whatever I wanted All in all I'm happy with both my Strats now. I'm a big fan of the SCs. I've put up several reviews and demos on my blog: The Fender Blog. Kmaz Silver Supporting Member.

Messages 8, I know of a Hello Kitty Squier Strat that has a nice - sounding set of pickups. I was pleasantly surprised!

By rock-lobster , November 22, in Electric Guitars. Yeah, they're kinda "meh" IMO. What they are are SD designs that have been licensed out and manufactured overseas for cheap. I just got rid of one and I got one oddball that's hard to replace. They're about 5x better than the crap they put in my Epi LP std, and they generally have pretty good- sounding voicings, but the problem with 'em at least mine is that they're compressed- to- hell sounding.
