The 8 best budget valve amplifiers and how to avoid getting ripped off

David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done. Thank you to everyone for their support. Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally. I have started a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills. Please help, if you can. Log in or Sign up. Messages: Hi all Been browsing the bay of evil, with nothing better to do, and stumbled accross a large number of Chinese Tube Amps under varius name, like Douk and the dubiously named Nobsound,.

Obviously priced at the bottom end of the Tube amp range, but still wondered what sort of sound quality they gave. I found a few reviews on YouTube that said they gave a good quality reproduction. Anyone tried any of them, what the opinion, I suspect I already know the answer though. Paul-H , Aug 23, Quadrunner likes this. Messages: 3, Location: Gothenburg,Sweden.

If seller offers schematics and it looks decent then buy it. Servicing an unknown amp without schematics is guesswork and could be expensive.

Hello, One of my best, for good sensitivity range speakers of 90dB or more is a Chinese EL84 push pull, that respects standard EL84 tubes voltages, but when use with heavy duty variants, last for very long and sounds very great. From one of if not the only transformers and amplifiers manufacturer in the world that use Permalloy in some of their output transformers.

Some uses other types of tubes that i use, but i dislike a little bit like 6DJ8, not made for audio applications at first.

I've been running a Yaqin MSB here for several years I bought used from another AK'er and have been quite pleased with it's performance. Andyman , Aug 23, I suspect you are correct, I was expecting a unanimous slagging of them all.

Looks like they can get something right after all. I suppose the usual problem will arise though, with them not only being good at copying something and making a good job of it but then loads of copies of the copies turn up and they are not quite as good, even though they all have the same name on them.

And then you get the copies of the copies of the copies etc etc etc. Finding the original gem will be the hard part is suppose. Outta Ammo and thomo57 like this. Messages: 3, Location: sss. Those Line Magnetic amps look pretty damn nice - pricey though. Messages: 2, Location: Victoria, B.

Messages: 3, Location: Las Vegas. It had a very good build quality and sounded excellent. I wish I never sold it. It was made by some Chinese audio company whose name escapes me now and imported to this country. It was made by Audcom in China and imported to the US. A well made piece of kit that also sounds excellent. I am not selling this one. I also have a Dared B amp that sounds good too. It has never given me any problems. There is some good Chinese gear out there.

You just have to wade through a lot of crap to find it. Last edited: Aug 24, VintageRulez and mjw21a like this. Messages: 3, Location: Terra, 21st century CE. I have been using Cayin D shown in my avatar , single ended amps for many years. They perform well with vintage small signal tubes, solid transformers, Japanese Hifi pots and nice point to point wirings.

The only complaint I have is that the factory is using some Chinese e-caps, some failed in 2 years and ruined quite a few tubes. It is such a shame that Chinese manufacturers tend to cut some corners when they make products.

I don't understand the rationale behind it as it save a very little compared to retail price of the units. This way of doing business ultimately damages the reputation of brands. TT-newbie , Aug 23, Messages: 1, Location: Hong Kong.

Scott amps and Magnavox for next to nothing from Amazon. I brought a couple of my amps over to his place for him to hear and made him pout like a little girl.

Messages: 2, Location: Centre of The Netherlands. I reviewed a Yaqin integrated amp somewhere in The importer sold it afterwards as 'used' and the amp is still going strong. Tubes have been changed though, not unreasonably after 8 years. Satch , Aug 24, Avoid Nobsound. See the 'Too good to be true' thread here recently.

And I'd support primo sounds' comment in post Dandy , Aug 24, I was wondering is there were any cheap enough kits. Looked up Analog Metric because I was impressed with the little speaker protection system I got for a Bose It used good parts and the board was nice. I think everything on the market is now made or supplied by China and I'm sure there are blatant copies.

I don't know if China has patent, copyright, piracy laws. I was told that India does not, so knock off and fakes are everywhere. Analog Metric has a nice web site. They seem very organized and capable about ordering, communicating and delivering. I am not affiliated. Their prices do not seem any better then say Bottlehead. Messages: 1, Location: Sterling, VA. Rygen , Aug 24, Messages: 5, Location: Funky Town. I have 3 pairs of Dared mono blocks, 2 of the 6L6GC 13 watts mono blocks and then the 8 watt B pair that I'm using now and I really liked them all.

I have the two 6L6GC pair stored away because nothing I"ve heard so far sounds as good as the B set upI'm running now. I'm sure there is but I'm sure I can't afford it. I also use the Dared SLA pre with them with great results.

Also all of the small signal tubes have been changed out to Brimar on the pre and Baldwins on the B amps and the power tubes are Shuguang B mesh plates. I'm as satisfied as I've ever been and I have had not alick of trouble with any of the Dared products since they been here.

Fairly reasonable on the lower end of a tight budget tube int amplifier. Show Ignored Content. Share This Page Tweet. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now.

China: the new hub of high-quality hi-fi

The reputation of the tube amp is so great, that the best possible compliment for a transistor amp is often to say it has a "tube sound". You've probably heard about the electric guitar tube amp, they're the most popular ones. Obviously, tube amplifiers or tube amplifiers have not only advantages: the counterpart is to be cumbersome, heavy and often very showy aesthetically speaking. A tube amp works in a completely different way from a transistor amp also called a solid state amp. In fact, tube amps work in high voltage several hundred volts compared to a few tens of volts in transistor amps. The tubes are different from the transistors because of their high output impedance, which requires the presence, in the tubes, of output transformers that adapt to the impedance of the loudspeakers. This means a greater ability to reproduce the peaks of the audio sine wave.

$, – Audio Power Labs TNT The TNT is an all tube class-A power amp that pumps out W at 8 or 4 ohms, which is a lot for a tube amp.

This may be the biggest no brainer purchase in the history of HiFi high quality audio integrated amplifiers. There has been much praise and press online and on YouTube about this amplifier, and as I found out this year myself, all of it is warranted. These amplifiers have ranged in price and quality but a few went up to insane wallet busting levels. I have reviewed a few of these amps on these pages over the years. One of my old faves in the realm of tube integrated amplifiers has always been the Line Magnetic ia.

That amplifier appears to have output transformers with Ultra Linear taps. But you mention doing 3 versions on that amplifier chassis, correct? PCBs make it easier to wire a kit. But PCBs make it harder to do modifications to the amp. Was the chassis on that amplifier Aluminum, or Magnetic Steel? I go on this forum before when i search some things but first time to post. It is filled with a lot of enthusiats : I checked on the chinese internet yes this amp from oemcar is cheap, 90 usd in china. I was just asking, and seems i was right.

HIGH FIDLITY - or hi-fi or hifi - reproduction is a term used by home stereo listeners and home audio enthusiasts audiophiles to refer to high-quality reproduction of sound to distinguish it from the poorer quality sound produced by inexpensive audio equipment, or the inferior quality of sound reproduction characteristic of recordings made until the late s. Ideally, high-fidelity equipment has minimal amounts of noise and distortion and an accurate frequency response. High-resolution audio, also known as High-definition audio or HD audio, is a marketing term used by some recorded-music retailers and high-fidelity sound reproduction equipment vendors. This includes pulse-code modulation PCM encoded audio with sampling rates greater than Hz and with bit-depths greater than 16, or their equivalents using other encoding techniques such as pulse-density modulation PDM.

Tube amps are more expensive because the components used to build them cost more.

Yaqin pronounced "Ja-chin" [1] is one of the more prolific Chinese manufacturers of valve tube based audio equipment. They to have "engage [ sic ] in power amplifier research and production more than 10 years. Yaqin equipment is primarily designed for a V AC mains electricity supply voltage. Rebadged models have been offered for sale [9] claiming to have dealt with the power supply issues. With valve equipment a 20 V overload on the mains input will result in about a 40 V overload on the HT High Tension side. Use of correct input voltage is important.

Nothing screams audiophile authority like a valve or tube amp. Of course they do but they also sit at the heart of some beautifully sounding hi-fi kit. Such is the current demand that new valves are actually being manufactured again while discovered caches of original valves can fetch high prices.
