The Ford Edge carries over into the model year with minor changes. The Edge aspires to be on the more premium end of the midsize crossover spectrum, but it's one of the older models in its segment; it made its debut in and was updated in Despite having a tall seating position and available AWD, the Edge is better suited for on-road driving than off-road excursions. While the Edge has some compelling attributes, it competes with a number of newer and more refined midsize crossovers including the Subaru Outback, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Toyota Venza.
Its interior capacity is one of its greatest strengths; the cabin is spacious and there's plenty of room in the cargo area for luggage, groceries, or gear. Overall interior quality is middling; there are nice materials in high-touch areas but swathes of plastic dominate the rest of the cabin. When we tested the updated Ford Edge Titanium , we noted that it didn't feel upscale enough to be the top-spec trim.
The addition of a new The Edge has acceptable acceleration with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but the twin-turbo V-6 under the hood of the sporty ST model scoots this midsize crossover with legitimate briskness. The capable drivetrains are let down by lackluster suspension tuning; regular versions of the Edge exhibit an unsettled ride while the Edge ST is overly stiff.
We've noted strong braking power in our testing, however. New packages for give the Edge some additional curb appeal, but it'll need a complete overhaul soon to keep up with the competition. Ford offers the Edge with two engine options. The first is a 2. It sends power to an all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission. We managed to accomplish a 7. The hotter powertrain accompanies the sportier Edge ST model.

The Black Appearance package does what the name suggests, adding inch gloss Ebony Black painted aluminum wheels, all-season tires, black fender badging, body color front and rear bumpers, a black grille, black lower body-side molding, black mirror caps, and painted black skid plates.
The Adventure package offers a more rugged look. It adds inch Carbonized Gray painted wheels, all-terrain tires, Ford's synthetic ActiveX seats, Carbonized Gray lower front bumper, Navy Pier door insert stitching, Pillar Black mirror caps and grille bars, and black roof-rack side rails. This rating consists of five stars in the front and side crash tests, and four stars in the rollover test. Ford offers the Edge with a number of standard driver assistance features including blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane keep assist.
Stepping up to higher trim variants of the Edge adds adaptive cruise control. Interior space, one of the Edge strongest areas, compares favorably to that of the Chevrolet Blazer.
