I have a customer in the food industry that uses a double U-joint for the coupling between a drive motor and dough mixer gearing actually it looks like the rear end out of a truck. We of course have trouble with water ingress during the sanitary wash downs, and have to replace motor bearings every so often because of this on some imported motors that apparently you can't fit an Impro seal on. We were watching a motor that the drive bearing was showing lack of lube on, and decided that if it went up during last months survey that we would replace it. The spike energy levels went up on the motor, but also were showing high on the "punkin" gearbox that has to be the rear end out of a truck. Velocity had also increased on the gearbox. The reliability engineer I work for on this part of the plant aquired the u-joint and discovered axial lines in them as seen in the power point display.
