The Irish Girl

She has continued to explore music throughout her life, leading to her graduation from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts While embracing a diverse pallet of musical influences, she still stays true to her New England roots. Lissa's newest release, on her own label Footprint Records, shows just that. It's a rich and cohesive mix of traditional and original material brought together by the warm tones of her fiddle and sweet vocals throughout.

All the Traditions – 5/14/06

Naturally much of this will depend on your individual taste. Some people prefer a raucous band of musicians on pipes, others love a great vocalist, while still others like nothing more than peaceful harp music. Female-led bands or artists are one option that might be appealing for some. Whether you just want to support a female artist, or you love the sound of a Celtic song sung by a lady, there are numerous bands out there that showcase the ample talents of women in the Celtic music arena. Heather Dale is a contemporary Celtic music artist that is a singer, as well as an accomplished musician. She plays piano, hammered dulcimer, Irish flutes and whistles, and bodhran drum alongside her band members. Dale highlights original Celtic folk music, but adds an updated twist with the instrumentation. The theme of fantasy runs deep in much of her music, but she also offers an album My Celtic Heart that features traditional folk songs. The Gothard Sisters are another interesting Celtic band, and they blend Celtic, folk, classical, world and northwest musical influences.

The group is an offshoot of Annalivia, an acclaimed Celtic-roots ensemble co-founded by Liz Simmons vocals, guitar and Flynn Cohen vocals, mandolin, guitar , whose musical partnership predates their marriage. They are joined by fiddler extraordinaire Lissa Schneckenburger whose musical partnership with Flynn, predates Annalivia. The players draw from their diverse musical backgrounds. Simmons grew up listening to her mother sing traditional songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America, as well as the New Orleans brass music her father played. Schneckenburger Lissa is a graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music and performed with Solas and Childsplay, and was a founding member of the fiddle group Halali.

The string and vocal ensemble Low Lily explores the roots and branches of American folk music with traditional influences and modern inspiration that weaves together a unique brand of acoustic music. Liz Simmons vocals and guitar , Flynn Cohen vocals, guitar, and mandolin , Corey DiMario stand-up bass and Lissa Schneckenburger vocals and fiddle are masterful players with deep relationships to traditional music styles ranging from bluegrass to Irish, Scottish, New England, and Old Time Appalachian sounds. Bands in the world of folk and roots music often find their line-ups to be fluid. The string and vocal ensemble Low Lily started its life as Annalivia.

Celtic Woman is an all-female Irish musical ensemble conceived and assembled by Sharon Browne and David Downes, a former musical director of the Irish stage show Riverdance. In , he recruited five Irish female musicians who had not previously performed together: vocalists Chloe Agnew, Orla Fallon, Lisa Kelly and Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, and fiddler Mairead Nesbitt, and shaped them into the first lineup of the group that he named Celtic Woman.

She danced from a young age and studied Vaganova ballet with Russian teacher and choreographer Andrei Bossov. Currently she resides in Monroe, and tends to a small vegetable garden. Ralph can be heard on more than recordings and has contributed to arranging and producing many of these. He teaches bass and performance classes at summer camps across the country. Shannon tours extensively with her husband, Matt Heaton.
