Taylor 114e vs 114ce

There has always been a whiff of elitism about Taylor Guitars. When Bob Taylor launched the company out of Lemon Grove, California in , the in-house philosophy was quality without compromise. Not much changed over the next quarter-of-a-century with Taylor pushing the envelope for well-heeled punters, but proving slower to cater for their mid-price counterparts. Since then, this lower-priced range expansion has been best described as cautious, with the and models initially coming in a natural acoustic format, then introducing electronics, and now finally - with the new ce - adding a Venetian cutaway to the dreadnought and grand auditorium body formats.

Taylor 114e Review

The Taylor ce falls into this category. It has exceptional tone for a guitar in this price range and the quality of the build is just as good as you would expect to come from Taylor. Taylors ce is not super cheap, but when compared to other guitars in its same space it is actually an exceptional value. The Taylor ce sounds like a more expensive guitar than it is.

I feel like the walnut wood on the model I tested fills out the tone and gives it a richer sound. I was pleasantly surprised. The Sapele model that we offer in the link below also has a smooth tone to it but it is slightly brighter sounding.

The grain in the walnut wood was beautiful and the grain on the Sitka spruce top was even and tight. For more information on wood properties check out our article here.

The fit and finish of all the joints were exceptional. There is something about how Taylor manufactures their guitars, they sound and feel very precise when playing them. The particular guitar I was playing was set up pretty well, the action was just slightly high, but can easily be adjusted if needed, so this was not of much concern to me.

The width of the neck is slightly narrower than what I would call as the standard neck. For those with smaller hands this is a good thing, however, it can feel a bit crowded if you have larger hands.

This instrument is a joy to play and an excellent choice for beginning and intermediate players. One of the nice features of the Taylor ce and e models are the built-in electronics. The adjustments are low profile knobs on the shoulder of the guitar. Cost Tone Playability Workmanship Electronics.

Taylor 114e Walnut

I own both. Can only keep one, reason being they are both entry level guitars for their respective brands kinda ridiculous to own two entry-level top brand guitars, no? I kinda want a short scale. I love the martin. A lot of character that hog. I also really wanted a small bodied acoustic hence the , but to be honest the dx1 feels slightly smaller, body wise and scale wise in comparison to the taylor ce.

Taylor 114ce

This particular body shape was invented and made famous by Bob Taylor the founder of Taylor guitars , and it is one of the most popular body styles these guys are using. The top of is made of solid Sitka spruce, which provides a versatile dynamic range while the layered Sapele body provides an excellent outlook and durability. It features a smaller size, making it more compact, easier to carry and handle for that matter. Surprisingly enough, the GS mini provides a rich tone despite its smaller size. Both the top and body are made of the exact same materials as Taylor — the top is made of solid Sitka Spruce while body features Layered Sapele materials. The only difference regarding the major features between Taylor and GS mini is that the latter comes outfitted with ES-Go electronics, making it a bit more versatile and suitable for nearly all music styles.
