Categories Recent Discussions. Categories BobTheSalmon Frets: July 14 in FX. Hi folks I'm looking for a pedal sized amp or amp in a box pedal that I can use at the end of my normal board, when I accompany an acoustic guitarist and singer at out of town shows.

The idea is that I turn up with guitar and board and plug straight in to the desk and use fold back. I have never gone anywhere near this approach before and obviously would like it not to feel too different to playing with an amp although I of course understand it is.

Any thoughts appreciated Orange Terror Stamp? One or more of the Mooer amp sims? Beexter Frets: July I haven't played one but this is pretty well the reason the Strymon Iridium exists. An HX Stomp is another great choice which I can personally vouch for. Ah yeah of course the Iridium Will check it out and hx stomp. Grunfeld Frets: July 14 edited July BobTheSalmon said:. Couldn't help but notice you mentioned SansAmp.

There's a nice one at a nice price in a signature quite near here Then a few pedals, and all going into a clean amp or occasionally PA. NelsonP Frets: Line6 HX Stomp.

Humans will swim in the sea even though there are many corpses in it. They will not swim in a pool with a corpse in it. AntonHunter Frets: If you're new to the concept, I heartily recommend the Joyo Amercian Sound for this to try out in principle. I'm sure the more expensive things listed sound better, but this is really great for the money.

StruanRobertson Frets: Iridium is excellent. If you wanted to stay analogue, it may be worth considering one of the VOX Valvenergy pedals too. Otherwise, I think it is hard to beat the Iridium if you have the budget and it covers what you're looking for. Hattigol Frets: Have a look at the Audio Kitchen stuff. Not cheap but you never see a bad review of them. TheBigDipper Frets: The BluGuitar AMP1 is a large pedal-sized analogue guitar amp w that will run without a speaker load and do exactly what you want - sending a line level signal to the desk with or without an emulated speaker.

It's my main "band" amp and does the job. ICBM Frets: July 16 edited July I use a Mesa V-Twin. I've owned three of them - one twice, so four times really! But it sounds brilliant! ArchtopDave Frets: The new Thermion Zero looks nice Got approval from Pete Thorn. TheBigDipper said:. I recently bought one of the little Mooer amp sim pedals.

I wanted something tiny that could fit on an existing pedal board for the occasional gig where it would be logistically easier to have no amp. I kept it mostly clean and used a dirt pedal when needed. Snags Frets: After that you can start spending proper money. Only had to use it a couple of times, but was reliabily informed it sounded fine by people in the audience.

Certainly better than I sounded. Soundcloud Embarrassments. Nikc Frets: AntonHunter said:. Thanks for the reply TheBigDipper , all analogue speaker simulations are not created equal I've found.

I love the one on my American Sound for the purposes described but found the one on my Quilter Interblock 45 to be way too fizzy with gain sound. I had hoped the Quilter would fill the role of an AMP1, but might end up shelling out on one, or a Milkman The Amp depending on how gigging looks when things properly start back. Another thing I'm thinking about is how easy it would be to modify the Quilter, if it's all analogue circuitry, whether changing a value of a component here or there might yeild soke good results.

But I have little to no electrical skills and I've now gone significantly off topic, so I'll leave it there! The Scrambler-EE Walk soundcloud experience. Sign In or Register to comment.

Thermion Zero Pedal Board Amplifier

The world of guitar amplifiers is often perplexing given the sheer amount of variables to choose from. There are new amps, old amps, new amps that sound like old amps and even amps on top of amps. Tube amps were first applied to radio and phone lines — the technology used along with their practical uses have come a long way since then. However, when you drive a hot signal into these valves, they cause the signal to saturate and break up a little, adding what can be a very pleasing distortion, creating a very characteristic tone. Using diodes and transistors as opposed to thermionic valves to amplify the signal, solid stare amps are often regarded as being much more reliable and require much less maintenance than tube amps. Hybrid amplifiers as the name suggests provide a hybrid, or combination of both of the above amp types. Usually this means the speaker or the amp itself is powered by solid state circuitry while the guitar signal is initially driven by a tube pre amp. The purpose?

Welcome to my DIY guitar effects blog. Here I'll show you how to get started and understand as much as I can what's going on inside your effects. I'll also be posting some of my build reports, works in progress, reviews, and other fun guitar related projects as well. If you're wondering how it sounds, just go check out the demo done by Pete Thorne here. While he makes everything he plays sound great, this pedal was really easy to dial in for various guitars because of the powerful EQ controls and internal gain trimmer.

Amp in a box pedal for straight in to PA

With this pedal, it's possible to route your instrument to more than one amp, or effects loop. It's even possible to output your instrument to more than one amp simultaneously. Ground lift transformers are available in the pedal as well to minimize ground loop hum than can occur when an instrument is plugged into more than one amp simultaneously. Thermionic Studios has purchased this kit to build this pedal. We are in the process of building the pedal and will have more to report upon completion. The version of the kit we have is no longer offered by BYOC - they have changed this pedal, allowing only a single instrument input, and with it, they no longer offer a switchable phase-inversion option. The version owned by Thermionic Studios has been discontinued and while BYOC still offers this pedal, the version they offer no longer supports the ability to alter the phase on output B.
