I removed the rear covers of BOTH speakers, and the foam looks really good. Do you have any other amplifier or receiver to isolate the issue?
Like I said before. I brought the G and the new CD player to the repair shop that refurbished the G, and he hooked them up as a pair, and played them into HIS speakers. I was there, and they played great. Unless something happened since then, I'm as confident as I can be that they both work. I'm just perplexed that BOTH speakers appear to have gone bad at the same time.
I thought that 's were "workhorses", and were very hard to "blow". If one driver goes out, does it cause this symptom? I don't have the schematics, so I don't know. They don't have "cross overs, as I understand, so what component S could cause this? I know that it's hard to diagnose if you're not here R u using equalizer or directly from G? I tried BOTH ways. Maybe it's more than a coincidence. If you have other speakers, hook them up and see if they sound distorted as well.
If not, then you may have fried few drivers on the 's. Will just one blown driver cause this symptom? If so, how do I check each driver individually? I'd hate to have to replace them all. Also, what other component besides the driver can cause this?
If any drivers were damaged, you would hear them specifically. The others should sound ok. Did you push the drivers in and out? See if you can feel or hear voice coil rub. I recently refoamed my series III's, and it ended up needing two drivers replaced. They sound ok, but the high's are not clean and crisp with the EQ on, which I re-capped. Without the EQ, the high's are clean.
So check your drivers to see if they are all ok. GD70 , Dec 30, Messages: 1, Location: Central Ohio. Do you have the EQ running through a tape loop? Could someone have pressed the button selecting the tape loop. The included patch cords for the EQ are not of very high quality and I would check those out if you are using them. Since you have the Series VI they must be fairly new so I doubt any driver problems.
