Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 1 Main / Stereo Speakers
By misfits73 , October 2, in 2 Channel. Currently driven by a Rotel RA, sound ok but i'm not quite happy;Rotel sounds a bit thin and bright. Tried them also with a Creek S2 and the bass-midrange improved a lot but unfortunaltely the Creek has gone. At least i know that the soft-dome tweeter cover my needs but i'm missing that extra umph so there. I know its jumping the gun a bit, but the Yamaha N in the Wam classifieds is probably a safe bet and will sound more punchy and refined than the Rotel.
It also has a MM Phono stage and is packed full of features including tone controls at an amazing price. Secondhand A That budget will buy you a mint example. Cracking amp with decent enough phonostage and easily tweakable if you are into that kind of thing:. You mentioned particularly, any reason for that and why not any of the series for example? Which Arcam mmar?
I've read that they have a very relaxed and laid back sound which is not my case. I think the sounds slightly 'cleaner' in nature, but the will still be good and will have the advantage of tone controls, which may be better in your situation. Either should be within your budget.
It is a punchy monitor but the tweeter isn't the smoothest around. If the tweeter quality on your Aegis One is similar, you should be looking for a warmer, fulsome integrated. Not the most explicitly detailed but that will be complemented by the forthright treble of the Aegis. And now the most important, which one of your suggestions suits the best for '80s heavy metal music, rock music?
Nad great current delivery. He's not into metal but he does like rock. I'd be tempted to bid on this. You can post now and register later. Posted October 2, These speakers really rock so i'm looking for an amp to get the most out of them. At least i know that the soft-dome tweeter cover my needs but i'm missing that extra umph so there must be something out there to drive them better.
Any suggestions?
 More sharing options How much do you have to spend and how big is your room? Small room, 4x3m lets say. Any other ideas? The Yamaha I mentioned means you could also sell your Dac Magic if that helps.
Nad and arcam amps pairs up well with the aegis. SSM Posted October 2, Thanks for your replies guys. Jezzer Posted October 2, With a good phono stage? Join the conversation You can post now and register later. Reply to this topic Insert image from URL. Go to topic listing.

Acoustic Energy Aegis ONE
Best known for the cute but pricey little AE1, Acoustic Energy is a pioneer of metal loud-speaker diaphragm, but hitherto the cost of going AE has been prohibitively high for all but the comfortable minority. But the company is not content to confine its activities to an upmarket niche, and is greatly reducing the entry price for metal fans, launching a new and more affordable range under the sub-brand Aegis. It looks fairly standard, with two drivers on the front, two bi-wirable terminal pairs plus a damped port on the rear. With real wood all round, the cosmetics are classily understated, though the thick framed grille looks better ignored, and the tweeter has its own secondary mesh protection. The tweeter has a 25mm metal dome, and both are fed via heavy gauge wire from a complex crossover with massive high power components. Although there is a degree of timesmear and some lack of true dynamic freedom, and despite the rather heavy and distinctly laid back balance, the sound remains impressively coherent and attractively light on its feet.

Say you want an EVO? Give it some space to spread its wings. Let it play naturally in the wide-open spaces of your den or living room, away from confined corners and certainly never on a bookshelf. Leave that bookshelf for your volumes of Greek mythology reserved for deciphering names of loudspeakers. You'll find that Aegis was the shield borne by Zeus. The EVO, as in EVOlution , updates the original AEGIS One with a new 1" silk-dome tweeter in an aluminum faceplate, an aluminum diecast chassis for the midbass driver, biwirable speaker terminals and a minor change in cabinet cosmetics. Though often included in the budget-bookshelf class, the original AEGIS always seemed too big for the part.
