Actors and production crews gathered at the Hawaiian Mission Houses Museum to shoot a new movie Saturday that features the stories of Hawaiian missionaries. The plot follows Kemo and Malia, who are students that visit Hawaiian Mission houses. The four-part movie will teach keiki and their families about Hawaiian history using a modern twist. Adapted from Walt Disney Pictures ' Academy Award-winning animated musical film of the same name — which in turn had been based on the classic French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont — [1] Beauty and the Beast tells the story of an unkind prince who has been magically transformed into an unsightly creature as punishment for his selfish ways. To revert into his true human form, the Beast must learn to love a bright, beautiful young lady who he has imprisoned in his enchanted castle before it is too late in the first place. Critics, who hailed the film as one of the year's finest musicals, instantly noted its Broadway musical potential when it was first released in , encouraging Disney CEO Michael Eisner to venture into Broadway. All eight songs from the animated film were reused in the musical, including a resurrected musical number which had been cut from the motion picture. Original songwriter Menken composed six new songs for the production alongside lyricist Rice, replacing Ashman who passed away during the production of the film. Woolverton, who was writing the film's screenplay, adapted her own work into the musical's libretto , and specifically expanded upon the characterization of the Beast. Costumes were designed by Ann Hould-Ward , who based her creations on both the animators' original designs as well as the Rococo art movement after researching how clothing and household objects looked during the 18th century. The musical opened to mixed reviews from theater critics, but was a massive commercial success and well received by audiences. Beauty ran on Broadway for 5, performances for thirteen years - , [2] becoming Broadway's tenth longest-running production in history.

Heather has been coaching aerials since , teaching aerial silk, static trapeze, single point dance trapeze, lyra, and aerial yoga to adults and children. In , she moved to Maui and founded Maui Aerial Arts and she is thrilled to have found her forever home. She has experience working with kids on the spectrum, refugees, and kids and adults with eating disorders. In addition to teaching aerial in the studio, Heather has spent years traveling and teaching culture and human rights as a university professor.
Past Seasons
All plays are performed at our home theatre space, Tenney Theatre at St. These same plays can be seen by children and their families on Saturdays at Tenney Theatre from late August through May. This context defines a certain kind of work, as children respond differently in groups of their peers than they do in mixed audiences. Therefore, we present a lot of new plays and put a lot of resources into supporting and developing local writers. Because so many plays are new works of dramatic literature, HTY often publishes these scripts in simple, inexpensive editions. These can be purchased by teachers for use in the classroom before or after the production.
ESCAPE TO THE ISLANDS THIS SUMMER WITH HITS THEATRE!
Raj Kumar. College and grad students often fill their summer with internships to make sense of what they learn in class with some real world experience. For a handful of law students from India, their summer is being spent in Hawaii working as externs for Justices of the Hawaii Supreme Court.
