It is receiving power, but when it's turned on the power indicator light flashes for 4 or 5 seconds before a loudish click, at which point the flashing doubles in speed Any ideas? Is it a specific enough problem to predict if it can be be fixed? Or any suggestions on where to take it to in the Birmingham area South for someone to take a look and repair?

Thanks for the reply Dan. Have checked and seems OK. Might come back to you about the NAD. Excuse my ignorance - can play vinyl through it? Presume so given it's generation. Only 2 speakers, still a problem with them disconnected. Can only see one fuse in the section I presume is the power management bit. Can you tell I know nothing??? It looks all right. I might swap it for a domestic fuse, unless someone here tells me that's a BAD idea????

If not, what kind of resistance do I need to keep below? Just popped it it out again. Can't really make out what it says on it - think it says '1. The fuse type has been specified by the Denon design team. If you put a domestic fuse in it you will proly fry the amp. LOL - Thanks for the swift warning Stewart. Having problems finding one on line so think I'll start ringing round the Hi-Fi shops to see if they can recommend anyone. The T being time delay. The time delay is to ensure the fuse doesn't rupture with the high start up currents associated with hifi equipment.

If you could borrow a multimeter you could easily check it. The resistance should be close to zero ohms, although a reading of up to 0. Fuses do not blow because they get bored. Fuses blow because they are designed to, when passing massively greater current than normal. Take the amplifier to a competent electronics engineer or just buy something else.

Why mess around? Although I have known T rated fuses in older equipment just give up the ghost for no apparent reason. It's worth checking. If it is the fuse bear in mind it could be a fault in one of the speakers that has caused it. But I agree, take it to a hifi shop with a repair facility, they don't necessarily cost a lot.
