Most are on their 2nd or 3rd generations now. Along the way, we were introduced to the tiny ultra-budget M3 in late , and very recently they have introduced the M7. FiiO was first founded in But FiiO has spent a lot of time with their on-line communities, and continued to listen to their potential buyers, adopt their ideas, and grow their product range. They debuted their first DAP the X3 in , and despite some early hiccups with developing the UI, have worked with their customer base to continually develop the firmware for a better user experience.

FiiO E17K Alpen II review (english version)

Disclaimer: Fiio is a site advertiser and sent me the E17K free for review. Fiio has been very busy with updating their product line. Where Fiio in the beginning had a warmer and more bassy sound, they now are a lot more clear and detailed sounding. Different here is that there is no unique bass boost button, but you can increase or decrease bass and treble in the menu via the scroll wheel.

I received the E17K a while before it was in the shops, I think it was around November. After some back and forth emailing with Fiio I finally got the E17K to work. Turned out the USB cable was faulty and of course that was solved quickly. From then on it was extremely easy to use the E17K. The original E17 was received quite well by Mike when he reviewed it back in January At that time the E17 was partially using the same components as the E10 , and it still does that today.

The E17K has a digital volume control and balance, bass and treble can all be modified in the menu just like the gain setting. Mike will be glad to see they kept the Treble EQ, he really loved that in the old E Gone is the old docking station the first E17 had, in the future docking will have to go through the micro USB port. Like so many other companies, Fiio also decided to leave out the optical input in the updated version but I personally can leave with that decision.

The E17K is still small. It weighs only g and measures I think it looks quite good. Then again for the price these things are selling there really is nothing to complain about.

Sometimes it misses a click but I can live with that. The E17K is a lot easier to work with than the first version was: the scroll wheel with click function makes navigating through the menu a whole lot easier and more user friendly.

A big improvement. That basically means there now are less buttons on the front of the device compared to the original E Design wise it does look a whole lot better to me. Both the Line out and the 3. It continues after the click. Lieven is living in Europe and he's the leader of the gang. He's a big fan of tube amps and custom inear monitors and has published hundreds of product reviews over the years. I take a different view of this little gem. I love it. Better than the onboard sound card?

For sure. I would appreciate, as it is the case for my HD8, a big quality bass device. Which DAC would you prefer? Main concern : the sound quality!!!

I think that will especially be true with a phone. So check the power specs closely, the headphone impedance, and especially the headphone impedance curve. Very musical and smooth, warmer sound. Read the review? Obviously a device that costs that much is expected to perform much better. Hopefully FiiO is reading this. This is what the E17 does and it drives me nuts as depending on resistance some headphones are still not balanced for me with my assymetrical ear canals… Ideally, once the slider is set all the way in one direction, the other channel should be dead silent, but its not.

The E17k goes 10 db each direction, which is literally 10 times softer on the opposite side. I guess there is therefore literally no reason for me to consider the E17K over the E17 then, considering I quite like the warm tonality of the original. Good points. The big advantage they have though is the digital volume control. I suppose Lieven uses a real Line Out to the amp.

I for myself have the predecessor e17 alpen with the stationary qugir. Nonetheless nice review guys, hope to see more.

If yes, does it make a worthwhile difference? What X do you mean Willy? E12a — enough power for the headphones, low noise for the IEMs. FiiO amps are great quality. If it did change the sound it would be for the worse. Keep your stuff simple with better gear. If you do that, be sure to use the very best cables possible, and the shortest cables as well.

Things have gotten better for iPhones. The Red costs more of course, and is newer technology. I am very hiss sensitive and have very sensitive monitors, yet I never had any hiss. What IEM are you using? Are you sure you didnt get a lemon unit? I assume if they chose the E17k that they wanted the DAC also in that little box.

I want to use this unit with MacBook pro or with a pc that has a decent audio card. Any comments? I have Mac and PC and the E17k — works very well. Is fiio e17k or fiio e10k better then audinst HUD mini in sound department? Which one would you recommend? I would connect this to a fiio x3 also with a pair of kef m iems. Hope you can have time to compare it,I have listen the e17k one time not bad, still better than any mobile phone.

The Dragonfly 1. What is the best type of connectivity to take advantage of the amp and dac of the Fiio e17k going through my LG Stylo 3 Plus phone? Just try it either way. A Dragonfly v1. I want to upgrade my e07k I love warmer sound so this e17k is not an option for me? For warmer one of the portable tube amps would probably be best, depending on your source, your DAC, your music….

To me the logical next step would be the Mojo, but there are many choices at that level. As were are almost in the end of , which budget DAC would you recommend the most? The E17k has its own power, but needs to be recharged. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.

FiiO E10K Review

We thank FiiO for this opportunity. To learn more about FiiO reviews on Headfonics you can click here. These starter units garnered quite a following and came out at a time when FiiO heavily invested in their dual roadmap of prefixing D to their consumer end units and E to their audiophile units. The Alpen 2 was released at the tail end of and the start of in some countries so it has been out for a few months now and has been overshadowed somewhat with the higher-profile X1, X3 Gen 2 and X5 Gen 2 releases this year. By now FiiO has pretty much got this packaging and accessory patter down to a fine art and it is symbolic also of how far they have come since their initial huge box and plastic wrap concoctions from a few years ago.

Fiio Q1 MKII Review – Balance and Harmony

In this review, we will look at exactly how this amp compares to its previous iteration and its most popular competitors, the Schiit Fulla 3 and the FiiO e17k Alpen 2. Well, I was right to be excited because the FiiO E10K comes with an onboard bass-boost feature that will crank the low-end of the frequency spectrum through the roof. Compared to other headphone DACs this one has a bit of warmth to it. This could be attributed to the digital signal running through the bass boost feature to a limited extent by default. Again, the low price point of the E10K proves the best reason to buy it over its competition. What encoded formats does the FiiO E10K support, you may be asking? If you are looking for a capable headphone amp on a budget that will amplify your headphone listening experience without a loss in quality, and you are a bass fan like myself, the E10K is for you. Check out this great video for an in-depth visual look:. You should see an installation popup for the E10K drivers when your DAC is plugged into your computer. Once your FiiO E10K is plugged in and its drivers are installed, you can plug your headphones into the front panel 3.

Can I use Fiio Btr5 and 2. I like the sound signature from Btr5. I really don't wanna come off sounding like a Fiio promoter, but I think I know exactly what to recommend you.

The headphone industry has been the first to feel and demark a seismic shift.

Check Authenticity. Things have been a bit static over the last year or two as the X series gathered momentum with only the E series being revised and upgraded and the D series falling back as bit. Well now comes a brand new letter, the Q, and out of the blue the Q1. Of course recently you would have seen their line-up due out over the next few months and it is very exciting indeed with the X7, M3 DAP and an all new dock for the X Series DAPs all due out. The Q1 comes in much the same package as the E11k and E17k with their new slim pack white cardboard sleeve housing the unit box and accessories. No mention of the DAC decoding, battery life and bass boost.
