Driving my Klipsch Forte 2 floorstanders, it was very slightly better than the Dynakit Stereo Since I already had the vintage Dynakit amp, I felt no need to purchase the RM, but it is a very well designed amplifier and probably one of the best on the market in terms of tone and headroom. Roger designs electrostatic speakers since he started his audio engineering career with Harold Beveridge, so I am confident his amp can handle Quads.
However, I don't think the output transformers are built to handle the loads of Quad electrostatics. Sounds good driving its single 12" speaker, but better driving quads - a half-stack of four Celestion Greenback 12"s.
All around, can go from Vox to Marshall, and even a bit tweedy. Sings when driven through a Keeley Super Fat mod transparent overdrive pedal. The ratio gives Ohm as the primary load when the secondary load is 8 Ohm. Power triodes, and other power tubes connected as triode, are not so critical when it comes to their loading. Maximum power will be achieved when the load resistance is twice the internal dynamic resistance of the tube. I do not think that distortion will be affected much if you higher the load; distortion could even get a little bit lower. You are close to this value so you will be fine. You are right, the numbers will change somewhat.
How Long Do EL84 Tubes Last?
The sound of a valve amp cranked nice and loud is synonymous with rock and guitar heritage. Valve technology was predominately found in televisions and radios from the mid to the late 20 th Century, transistor technology advanced and took its place. That being said, guitar amplifiers remained married to valves due to the unique feel and tone they produce.
