They do great work at a reasonable price. Give them a call and have your specs ready. The company seems to be interested in all work, even obscure or difficult to source transformers like the early 's AC power transformers.
Re: power transformer repair by Chris » Jan Sun 13, pm Looks can be just as deceptive when it comes to electronic parts as they are anywhere else. I've seen brand-new transformers that were defective, and rusty, dirty, horrible looking things with tar oozing out of them that still worked fine.
Whether you buy a new transformer, a used one, or get the original rewound, it is going to cost you a bunch of money. It's worth making sure you really need a new transformer before taking that step. I've never dealt with Heyboer myself so I will not comment one way or the other, but others on the forum have mentioned the company favorably. The fact that they do a lot of guitar amplifier work would not bother me in the least, in fact I'd be encouraged since it means they know how to deal with HV windings.
There are several ways you can test power transformers, a search on the forum should bring up lots of good reading. But one thing to keep in mind is, until you have checked to see that there are no abnormal loads on the power supply--i. Detrola » Jan Sun 13, pm Heyboer does exceptionally nice work, and made the original power transformers found in plenty of equipment going back for decades. Everything I have ever sent them has been done within a week or two and never had any issues. You get what you pay for and their transformers are worth every penny, although unfortunately the vast majority of vintage radios aren't worth the cost of a custom made transformer.
Note that being able to build transformers that will stand up in guitar amplifiers is a very positive thing, since those amps are abused horribly you have to have a really good transformer with adequate windings and insulation. Dennis Experience is what you gain when the results aren't what you were expecting. I spoke to Arlen who took all the specs, and created a brand new power transformer for If you look at the set, it has 2 's as rectifiers, and a 10 as a power tube. The In my case, a working Zenith from was certainly worth the cost. Will I recoup the repairs? Heyboer consistently comes thru with quality products built to the collector's specs for a very reasonable cost. If anyone here has a better, cheaper alternative, please let me know. I look at the act of getting the set working the reward in itself since I have no intention or interest in flipping sets for a profit.
For those who fish as a hobby, the analogy would be worrying about the market value of the fish you catch against your investment in fishing gear. I have yet to find any fishing enthusiast who gives recouping their investment in gear even a glancing consideration. Most would laugh at the idea. Invest what your budget affords, enjoy doing what you love doing and forget about it..

You can send your old one to them, and the'll rewind it on your original core, or build a completely new replacement. Give them a call and ask for Arlen. He'll certainly help and give you an estimate with no problems. Could be, but not usually unless there is a bad burnt smell around it too. Best test Let it run the other tube filaments and pilot bulb will glow, if good for 15 mins or so. Used this method for years, never has failed to show a good or a bad xfmr. Also, while testing this, test your tubes. They are being pre-heated so they test faster! Also, tube testing will keep you near the xfmr under test so you can hear any sizzling or popping sounds a bad one will make.

They should never be hot to the touch, but all of the ones I've had were warm to very warm after 15 minutes. By cron , May 5, in Amps. Been contemplating replacing the output transformer in my for a heyboer for a while now but dont know where to buy them from and which specs to ask for? The heyboer website never loads. Do they have a standard model that'll fit? I would guess go to Heyboer.

Can someone please tell me the number written on the Heyboer Transformer that is being used -n the Valve Juniors? I need to know the Heyboer part number so I can order one from them. I did the search for "Heyboer" but could not come up with the part number in any messages.
