The idea of a quality speaker on your phone that doubles as a full portal to Alexa sounds intriguing, but the execution is more than a little questionable.
If portability is really what you were after, the Amazon Tap likely has much better speaker quality and yet still functions as a fully portable Bluetooth speaker. If you want to use your camera you have to remove the mod every time, which is bound to get tedious fast. The Moto Smart Speaker seems like a solution in search of a problem. If you want Alexa on your phone, the Alexa app or the Amazon shopping app both have it incorporated. Abner Li. I like docks. My adoration dates back to Exhibition Mode in webOS and to a lesser degree the original Daydream screen savers on Android. Of those, my favorite is easily the Moto Display found on the Moto Z line of devices. Now, that feature has a hardware dock to pair that also acts as an Alexa speaker. Unfortunately, that dock aspect is the only saving grace of an otherwise questionable Moto Mod.

Notably, the new launch comes days after the Moto X4 debuted with Alexa integration. Four far-field microphones are also available to help you pass your voice commands directly to the speaker by saying hotword, "Alexa". The modular attachment packs a mAh battery that delivers up to 15 hours of life on a single charge, as per the company's claim. Furthermore, the speaker has an advanced nano-coating that makes it a splash-resistant accessory for your Moto Z phone. What makes the new Alexa-powerd Moto Mod an attractive piece of technology is the blue LED ring which is featured on its back. The LED ring glows just like the one on an Echo device - distinguishes the new modular attachment with the existing JBL Soundboost 2 that has similar stereo speaker construction with a mAh battery.

The Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa launched at the same time as the printer.
