By robbie , November 14, in DIY. I have been looking around the usual places and researching high efficiency speakers to partner with low power b amps. I found a design that looks interesting by an outfit called Beyma, however, the design seems to lean more towards profession PA type use rather than home hifi. Can anyone suggest a speaker design that follows my thinking, ideally something that is not too complex to build A simple sealed box can work a treat. And a good intro to speaker building. This is the seconded speaker I've built and the first one I've designed from scratch. I really wanted to keep simplicity in mind during the build of this, that is why I decided to go with a pre-built crossover, rather than making one from scratch. The Audio input to amplifier is shown very well in the seconded picture, the mono channel plug has 2 wires one for ground and the other for left and right signal. Since I have only built one speaker I had to combine the left and right signals, however; if you were to make two of these speakers you would want to change out this cable two one where the left and right channels are separated. I also made the chord itself, if you extend the black and red wires with 18 gauge speaker wire you can take the braided wrap of paracord and cover the speaker cable. To get the power to the board we have to add a DC female jack, this is shown in the 3rd picture.

Update: The quality of cheaper speakers has improved over the past couple of years, but there has also been a shift away from larger drivers in order to save on cost - the cost of a large woofer, the cost of the extra wood to build a box to hold the larger driver, and the cost of shipping a heavier speaker - up to pounds per speaker. Most speaker manufacturers both low and high end have shifted to systems with drivers 6.
