If you put it in a player that doesn't automatically decode DTS, you will get nothing but annoying hiss that could damage your speakers or system. Fortunately, my separate Sony Blu Ray player did decode, and the surround is quite nice. The mix is a bit odd in places, differing from the original album though that's often one of the pleasures of surround discs , but enjoyable in its own way. I recommend it, but be careful regarding your equipment.

The data on the disk looks like normal 2 channel 16 bit When you play these discs on your normal 2 channel system the tracks seem to contain only noise. SACD's are being pushed mostly by Sony and Philips, and driven by Sony's collection of software titles, but other labels also offer limited numbers of titles in the format. DVD-A, however, appears to have drawn, at least so far, a broader range of record companies and the format itself is easier for consumers to exploit than SACD. This means any DVD player connected to any home theatre system can sound simply awesome, as long as it has a digital audio output.
