In the near 14 years of their existence, Amplifier have suffered Irom more than their lair share of the kind of pitlalls that the music industry can throw at a band, deliantly stuck two lingers up to the perceived manner of doing business and set about creating their own music for themselves and their fans. For an alternative band unalraid to toy with rock conventions, it was a steadfastly punk rock way of doing their own business. Then again, there has always been something special that sets Amplifier apart. A youthlul display of the unyielding beliel that has lired Sei Balamir, Neil Mahony and Matt Brobin the same trio who make up Amplilier today to the point where they can dictate their career on their own terms. By kind A. Releases Concerts. Succeeding an "Insider", "The Octopus" is the meticulous but gargantuan work of a trio of laboratory technicians, and deployed over more than three years of research. Building its vast still with a rough alternative rock, Amplifier circulates a whole bunch of harsh electrical liquids heated by Chris Sheldon's undistilled raw production Oceansize, Foo Fighter, Pixies, The result is a heavy sound without frills and sticky packaging. But due to a strong attachment to its English origins and close friends of Oceansize, the sounds and formats of this octopus paving stone are also affected by the progressive, nervous and sometimes unbridled rock of their counterparts in Manchester although it is more a question of the wiser period of "Effloresce". Mike Vennart will also come to add his vocal signature to some parts of the opus.

Release Date: Tracklist. Album Rating: 4. You're getting better with each one, pos. Ghost negging isn't unusual, so yeah, don't bother with them. I agree with you, the debut is an amazing record and to be honest, I wish they'd return to that sound for their next one.

It is fine and all making a double disc prog album, but it is also is an insufferable task when the whole thing drags over two hours. Now making a double album is not the easiest task, the album has to be able to send the listener off on a journey, or at least tell a story through a collection of songs that could not fit on a single disc. I will commend Amplifier for the amount they have put into this album, and I would have loved to have enjoyed it for the sheer balls of attempting an album of this magnitude, especially considering they worked with Chris Sheldon who certainly gives Amplifier a grand sense of scale and a raw thickness. But even if the best parts of both albums had been reduced to a single disc, it would still be impossible to pull a good to great album out of this. Released January 31 on AmpCorp. Posted by Mark R. Amplifier: The Octopus
When attempting to craft a truly landmark-worthy statement in music, the trend in rock music is generally to create something in excess. Be it a groundbreaking concept piece, or a sprawling double album, the formula often rests on how much ambition is involved. With a sound that is easily associated with fellow Brits Porcupine Tree or Oceansize, Amplifier do manage to take their roots in prog and merge it with a more accessible alternative rock sound to appeal to a demographic beyond the underground progressive music circles. That being said, much of the music here is quite good. At two hours long, one can expect a pretty daunting task getting into this album, but as with all good music, the songs here do grow and ferment with time, proving that while not a masterpiece, Amplifier has put just enough good things in the album to make for a great, if not truly excellent listen.
