LFD owners thread

We often read about amp A sounding superior to amp B or amp C wiping the floor with amp D etc. I also noticed that there are few ex-Naim users who recommended the LFD over Naim for its superior sound quality. I am not really interested in all the talk about LFD sounding better than Naim or vice versa as in my experience they just sound different, not necessarily one better than the other.
This goes the same with any other amp comparison. I can surely live with both but picked the Naim in the end for its superior build quality. The deal breakers of the LFD for me were the lack of a remote control and poor build quality. What I am interested in is genuine experiences of those who have compared or owned both LFD and Naim. My question. Or perhaps the parts and transformer have grown in size.
Totally uninspiring and dull as ditchwater. Phoned the man to see why, and gathered that filtering may have been incorporated into the design. Mike Reed , Jan 6, Tony L , Jan 6, The smaller casing however had less contribution to the sound of the amp. NCSE is a different kind of amp with much more powerful sound and also in a bigger sturdier casing More than a year ago I went to a used Exposure XXXV Sounds not as refined as LFD but has more bottom power and is fleshier and is much easier on the ear when sound gets somewhat louder.
Cyreg , Jan 6, Wilson likes this. Interesting about the poor build quality comments. Yes they are rather cottage industry in appearance, but the build quality inside is exceptional. It is done for sonic reasons These indeed bring more weight, effortlessness and especially in the case of the PA2M SE deeper and tighter bass.
The Zero IMO needs sensitive speakers to work best, for my 84db speakers the big power amps are welcome. Yomanze , Jan 6, Mullardman likes this. I didn't compare it to NAIM. My comparison was between three amps at broadly similar prices which all had a good rep.
Sugden A21, Sonneteer Orton in my room and system. The LFD simply sounded better in areas which matter to me. More open, better defined soundstage, overall clean and balanced sound That's about it. Nothing wrong with the bass control. My Speakers are around 84db but not a difficult load and no nasty impedance dips. I don't listen especially loud. I'm happy with my purchase, but wouldn't rule out trying the NCSE. It's the same old story.. It's so annoying Mullardman , Jan 6, You'll have to forgive us, but it's difficult not to be rude.
For some people on this forum, Naim is terrible any Naim , so based on their superior knowledge, I would definitely recommend you NOT to buy Naim! Oh, and by the way, yes, Naim is snake oil! Are you one of the 'Usual Suspects'? Those people questioning LFD 'build quality' are seemingly incapable of distinguishing between 'build quality' and 'cosmetics'.
The build quality is superb. Very neat internally and featuring proper components, properly put together on proper boards. Admittedly, the back panels can look a bit 'cottage industry' as they feature pretty basic graphics and hand written serial number etc.
I personally find that reassuring. Also, I tend to listen to, rather than look at, my LFD. Also, when I look at it, it is mostly at the rather pleasing and minimalist front panel. LFD are very much believers in components having a sound of their own and the upgraded version of an amp often differs only in that it has some different internal wire or a different brand of capacitor in one part of the circuit.

David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done.
LFD NCSE Mk 3
I picked it up locally so it was not shipped to me. It is in fantastic condition. Rated as 8 because I am the second owner, if only for a short time. Clean in and out. I opened it up and it is spotless. I did replace the fuses as they were the original from when it was built circa The sound produced is all you have read about. It is so detailed and so balanced that you can hear notes from both speakers so perfectly. I am a recent owner of Harbeth Compact 7 speakers and Spiroflex speaker cable that I purchased from a renowned seller here and known all over for showing of Harbeth speakers in combo with the LFD line of integrated amps.

LFD Model LE IV Signature Stereo Integrated Amplifier
Functional Notes: Operational condition of this item is excellent, fully tested and no issues found. III: Bass output is more rich, and complements the middle frequencies- never overtakes them. One need not and probably should dismiss the idea of consider a sub woofer which in my opinion and that of the reseller would probably muddy the sound quality. The bass output in both amplifiers was at all times never artificial, boomy or loud, however the bass "size" in the LE III was subdued by comparison. Mid range instrumentation has additional clarity, not as great a difference as was the bass clarity when comparing the two amplifiers, but never-the-less noticeable.

Have you heard all these amplifiers yourself under similar condition or in your own system? I ask this because I was expecting your post to elaborate on these amplifiers' qualities, but instead you just gave us links without any personal observations. Are you saying that the LFD and Lavardin are better than the Krell just based on you reading these links without hearing them yourself? TSQ, Hi. I'm actually not recommending any of the latter amps over Krell per se but am merely highlighting and linking comments by others on them and stating fact that I'd probably buy either one of them when I upgrade from my present amp. And hence the apology for recommending an amp not within my own consideration!

This came to us from one of our excellent customers original owner whom took beautiful care of the amplifier. The use of superior parts and additional hand-made silver wiring reduces grain and noticeably improves transparency. There is no option for an internal phono. It was such a good amplifier, that even after upgrading my analog front end to five-figure territory, I was still very pleased with the Mistral. I am still haunted by the high level of performance by that modest, minimalist amplifier and regret not buying the review sample. The faceplate is unusually thick for a British integrated and is similar to what you might see on a big American monoblock. The four rubber feet from previous versions have now been upgraded to three isolation devices that consist of a viscoelastic foot that fits into a milled aluminum cup. Power output has taken a jump to 70 watts per channel, up from 60wpc in the LE II and 50wpc in the original Mistral. Even with the power increase, the LFD runs cool to the touch, so it will easily fit in tight spaces without a problem.
Differences Between LFD and Naim
Malcolm O. The LE which Dr.

By boussven , August 28, in Owners Clubs and Forums. Like Croft Acoustics amps, LFD's are often paired with Harbeth speakers, any other good amp-speaker matches you use or heard of? Thanks for sharing. Probably Special Edition, but what's so special about it compared to the "normal" Mk4?
Wacker, the fantastic))))
