If you see it again it's because something has changed so please set your preferences accordingly. How to? Is there any way to plug my controller directly into the monitors without getting any interference?

Perhaps it might work out ok just going direct just using a somewhat common RCA to TS "guitar cable connection on one end - unbalanced" , but to balance the signal from the rca, you could use two direct boxes or a stereo one which would give you outputs on XLR. Just using an rca to trs or xlr cable alone will not balance it. Noise might happen if you're plugging into other systems though, also if you're using a computer.

I have a system in which I have to have all signals balanced or else I get that dreaded computer noise. Last edited by ericzang; 18th June at AM..

It was actually nice to have less gear involved. Only way to balance it that I can think of at the moment is a direct box. This for example, is a stereo one with the nice addition of rca inputs. If you have noise issues then you should consider a direct box.

The mentioned Rolls DB is isolated and will work or there are many other similar transformer-isolated devices made by Whirlwind, Rane, RDL and others. The more expensive devices often use better quality transformers which will have less affect on your audio. If you have no hum, fine. If you do have hum or noise, then use an isolated transformer line-level converter to break the ground loop and balance the output.

Be careful not to use a DI designed for mic-level inputs. Many DI's use a transformer, but also a 15, 20 or 30 dB attenuator to reduce line-level signals to a safe level for a mic inputs.

That won't work to drive your active monitors. If the DI specifies "works with mic inputs" or it specifies using a " or transformer" it's wrong for your application.

It should use a or transformer and not drop the signal level. There are many types of "DI"s available having different input and output impedances, and having different amounts of signal level change. Most DIs with XLR outputs are designed for use with mic inputs, not monitor line-level inputs, so be sure you know what you're getting.

Last edited by Lotus 7; 20th June at PM.. If I get a ground loop this will be the solution However a TRS plug Tip, Ring and Sleeve can carry a balanced mono analog mono signal, an unbalanced mono signal, or an unbalanced stereo signal.

The type of connector does not define the audio format of the signal. Connecting an unbalanced stereo signal such as that on a headphone output jack directly to a balanced mono input on an audio converter simply won't work, even though both signals are on identical TRS jacks.

Doing so is a "classic" newbie mistake, but is probably done by someone every single day. The converter in the link appears to be an electronically-balanced active converter. I have no experience with that specific unit, but usually similar units work well. How well they eliminate ground loop noise depends on how well it's designed. Transformer-isolated unbalanced to balanced converters are pretty much foolproof as long as they use a decent quality transformer.

They will always break any ground loops completely. With electronic converters, some designs work better than others.

They pop-up on eBay occasionally. Personally, I prefer using transformer isolators since they don't add the complication of requiring an additional power connection.

They're almost indestructible, and don't contain any active components that can fail. Any transformer-isolater can slightly "color" the sound, but so can electronically-balanced converters, and some poorly-designed ones can add considerable distortion on loud peaks. That's why a simple, direct unbalanced connection should always be tried first. Last edited by Lotus 7; 18th June at PM..

The electronics in the monitors will sort out the rest and the signal itself will default to unbalanced. This will not damage your monitors. Unbalanced may cause audible interference i.
