I knew then that I simply had to have a set of these highly efficient transducers, and squirreled away enough green to purchase a pair. The Total Eclipse has been my reference ever since. Based on its more modest size and price, one would expect the Super Eclipse to sound similar to the top-of-the-line Total, but on a somewhat lesser scale.
While the Total Eclipse does have deeper as well as fuller bass, I could easily live with less on the bottom end in exchange for the midrange liveliness and sparkle exhibited by the Super Eclipse III. The larger midrange drivers afford the Total larger-than-life images, but this comes at the expense of specificity. In comparison, the Super has a more realistic soundstage, with images that are still convincingly life size as well as more precisely focused. In my experience, positioning the woofers towards each other usually results in one-note bass.
Positioning the bass drivers facing outwards may require more experimentation and set-up time, especially in smaller rooms, but eliminates the homogenized bass and gives a much wider, more expansive soundstage. Listening with eyes closed, the soundstage extended nearly wall-to-wall beyond the outside of the speakers, and reached almost to the 9. The Super Eclipse does need some break-in time.
Straight out of the box, it sounds a bit thin and dry. They not only improve overall performance, but the enhanced stability prevents the beloved family pet from launching a speaker across several tube amps and into the fireplace. In my experience, it just depends on the amp. Truth be told, I preferred the Meridian G57 over a few of the tube amps I auditioned.
That being said, the majority of my listening was via tube gear, namely the 23W Mactone MAB stereo triode power amp see sidebar. While I found the Super Eclipse to be a more resolving as well as less forgiving speaker than its big brother, it was by no means brutally revealing. In fact, one of the most impressive aspects of the Super was its high level of clarity, smoothness, and sophistication.
The high frequencies were as clear and extended as the associated equipment would allow, with no audible smearing. The Super also has a nicely balanced top-to-bottom presentation, without any obvious humps or bumps along the way.
Perhaps love is blind, but I have no complaints about the Super. In fact, I prefer it. Aesthetically, covering a speaker with grille cloth is like putting hubcaps on a car—I prefer my wheels with the lug nuts showing. Its impressive three-dimensionality, coherency, and midrange sparkle—combined with bottom-end articulation and dynamic punch—more than make up for any lower-frequency extension limitations.
Lately, early morning has become my favorite quiet time for listening, before the chaotic onslaught of daily life rears its ugly heard. This is one classy speaker. I would like to express my appreciation to TAS in particular and Sue Kraft, specifically, for a review which captures so lucidly and perceptively the qualities inherent to our Super Eclipse III speakers.

The front baffle can be made very narrow so that diffraction affects are eliminated thereby enhancing image width and reducing crossover lobing.
High frequencies which are characterized by their very short wavelengths propagate sound in a highly directional manner, unlike low frequencies which are omni directional in nature. The result is an acoustic simulation of a steep crossover while retaining the inherent purity of an electrical first order crossover. Provides for greater flexibility in placement inside or outside firing of the woofers to avoid room standing waves.
The low crossover point to the woofers hz means that the acoustic wave length is many times the distance that the woofers are separated from the midranges. Therefore, the side firing woofers will always be in phase and blend seamlessly with the midrange. The side firing woofers in Coincident models allows the user to avoid room standing waves simply by swapping the speakers from left to right.
In some rooms, inside firing will sound best, while in others, outside positioning will offer the deepest, tightest bass. In some but unfortunately, not very many listening environments, it will make no difference how the woofers fire. I was very pleased to see that Sue observed that solid state amplification can sound superb with the Super Eclipse III as it can with all Coincident models.
Contrary to popular belief, I use a wide variety of amplifier topologies in designing Coincident speakers. I have my personal preferences to be sure, but the easy drivability and high power handling capabilities of our speakers makes amplifier choice a personal one. From flea powered SETs to behemoth solid state, Coincident speakers will work with them all.

This pair of excellent sounding Tannoy Eclipse Two Floor Standing Speakers have come to us via a part exchange and come with a 6 month warranty. They have been tested and are in full working order. The speakers are in good cosmetic condition but one of them has a small dent on the back edge please see photos. They come with the base, carpet spikes and the original boxes. Room-filling sound With their larger, floorstanding cabinets, the Tannoy Eclipse Two speakers are perfectly suited to medium and larger rooms. Their easy-going characteristics also make them the ideal match for budget separates or mini systems alike.

How to get started with Eclipse Arrowhead
This session will address science questions related to how the upper atmosphere system responds to the rapid reduction and recovery of solar irradiation. Research indicates these solar irradiation changes lead to not only changes in ionospheric photochemistry but also the energetics and dynamics in the upper atmosphere, all of which are fundamental CEDAR themes. Some of the challenging science and observational questions include thermospheric variations and their ionospheric consequences as well as eclipse induced atmospheric and ionospheric waves. The 21 August Solar Eclipse has provided an unpreceded opportunity for the study of ionosphere and thermosphere fundamental processes and, in particular, their coupling, energetics, and dynamics. In fact, as of now, a number of publications and presentations have already revealed some completely new sometime unexpected results and new understanding regarding IT variations during and after the solar eclipse. They have been triggering further thoughts and scientific debate to clarify fundamental means of solar and IT connections.
