Children beginning their school careers during the pandemic are likely to need a lot more support than usual to build their foundational skills for reading. The most comprehensive study to date of pandemic-related learning loss in the earliest grades finds that some 40 percent of 1st graders have come to school this fall significantly behind in early literacy skills—particularly around phonics—and they will need intensive interventions to prevent them from ending the year reading below grade level. Researchers from Amplify, a digital learning company, analyzed data from , students from more than 1, schools in 41 states who participated in DIBELS, a commonly used early literacy test. Unlike the computer-administered Growth-MAP and iReady assessments used in other recent analyses of learning loss, the DIBELS is given by teachers one-on-one with students, either in person or over video conference.

The town hall is one of eight hosted by the department across the state. The state is exploring ways to create a new funding system that would take a student-focused approach. Department of Education Commissioner Dr. Penny Schwinn was in attendance and heard suggestions and questions from local education leaders and advocates. The current BEP model sees Tennessee public schools get state funding through a formula that uses local sales tax revenue and property values to allocate funds at the county level. The formula creates a basic level of education for Tennessee students based on instruction, benefits, classroom and non-classroom, according to the state Board of Education website.

Amplify is a curriculum and assessment company launched in July Amplify Curriculum was built on the foundation of Wireless Generation, the educational company News Corp bought in Amplify products and services provide assessment and analytics for data-driven instruction and next-generation digital curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards. News Corp sold Amplify in for an undisclosed sum to the Emerson Collective , a philanthropic organization founded by Laurene Powell Jobs. Larry Berger, co-founder of Wireless Generation, is now the chief executive of the new company. Amplify was formed after the purchase of Wireless Generation, which was founded in by Larry Berger and Greg Gunn. The company sold its products and services to districts and states that used government funding for early reading and other programs.

The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in all students at Park View High School. Membership in this chapter shall be known as active and graduate. Active members become graduate members.
