This years conference also included some great breakout sessions focusing on the ministry of faithful ministers. Sinclair Ferguson examines the life and preaching ministry of John Flavel. Flavel was a non-conformist preacher in the 17th century who was exiled from Dartmouth during the Great Ejection. He, along with many others, was not allowed to preach within five miles of any major population center. Consequently, he was devoted to ministering to a single flock in an out-of-the-way place in the south of England.

This last dimension is something that is not well understood in our contemporary day, as sermons are reduced to mere facts and figures independent of personality. The Puritan sermon was a carefully wrought piece of work that began with a clear introduction to the text, an analysis of the key points of the text, an exposition of the truths enshrined in the text, and a clear explanation of how the particular truths arise from the text, and sensitivity in the handling of any difficulties.

All of this would be done using plain speech and manifest love for the congregation. A number of his books have remained in print and are available today. Keeping the Heart , which expounded on the principles of Proverbs.

I recently came across 2 sites that have links to a great many sermons by our Scottish friend Sinclair Ferguson. The usual suspects gathered in Orlando in April to talk about Heaven.

The conference titled Coming Home: New Heaven and New Earth sought to stir longing for our ultimate home in heaven as we explored the sweep of redemption from creation to consummation, from Genesis to Revelation. Along with the nine main plenary sessions we had more than 50 workshops and focus gatherings led by speakers addressing topics including evangelism, homosexuality, student ministry, sexual abuse, faith and work, and more. This years conference has been titled The Inerrancy Summit, and it has assembled a stellar gathering of speakers: Alistair Begg, R.

Most of the sessions are on Vimeo, and more audio and video options will be coming later, I presume. Sproul Jr. Sproul, and Derek Thomas. These men consider some very difficult question as it relates to our contemporary culture.

How are we to confront this present world? How do we live faithfully as godly remnant in such a world? How should we defend the faith? How do we stand up for and champion biblical ethics in a society that is hostile to our ethics? As has been true in every generation, the church today faces many challenges from the world.

The intellectual and moral opposition that we face can seem overwhelming at times, which is why we need to remember that Christ has already overcome this opposition.

By His life, death, and resurrection, our Savior has conquered our enemies, and by His Spirit He has granted us to share in the victory. The Lord, in His Spirit, comes alongside us to strengthen us for the battles we face.

This strengthening occurs as we are grounded in His truth John Ligonier is offering this years conference free for online viewing, it is also available for purchase. Monergism has been actively digitizing and collecting sermons by Sinclair Ferguson, and Feeding on Christ has created a helpful Scripture and topical index for this large collection.

Flavel epitomized the Puritan style of preaching, which was characterized by three dimensions. The ministry of the gospel is a ministry of the Word of God The ministry of the Word of God is a ministry to this particular world. The ministry of the Word of God to this particular world by this particular worker. Flavel was a remarkable illustration of this. Truth of The Gospel Conference 2016, Paul Washer. Session 4. Q&A

Today marks one of my favorite days of the year. There are few places where rich preaching, insightful teaching, God-glorifying worship, refreshing fellowship, sacrificial service, and a deluge of resources are excellently weaved together in a local church atmosphere to serve church leaders. And over the 14 years I have participated, the conference has always accomplished its mission. As usual, the speaker line-up is set to richly bless attenders. And in between sessions, staff and volunteers are set up to do everything from shine your shoes, prepare custom coffee, have a theological discussion, and put a book in your hand. Roughly volunteers show up early, stay late, and work long days to serve attenders. If you are unable to attend, you can catch the live-streamed general sessions here. All sessions are made available for listening shortly after the conference. And please pray that our Lord would transform all to be more faithful shepherds of his flock. Posts Twitter.

We Preach Christ — Highlights of Shepherds’ Conference 2017

With formal and informal networking opportunities the outstanding programme was beneficial to all who attended. The collapse of Barings — personal bank to HM The Queen — in and Nick Leeson's role in it, is one of the most spectacular debacles in modern financial history. Curiosity, intrigue and sympathy have been the various reactions to this man's incredible life story. Following Barings' collapse, Nick Leeson was sentenced to six and half years in a gang-ridden Singaporean jail, in conditions that defy belief, while at the same time, his wife left him and he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Against all odds, Nick Leeson survived and now fully recovered from cancer, lives happily in Ireland with second wife Leona and three children. Having stepped down as CEO in January , Nick Leeson continues to be in-demand around the world for conference and after-dinner speaking.

It demonstrates the Reformer's understanding of the role and nature of preaching. We believe, as they did, that the faithful exposition and application of God's Word is essential to the life, health, and growth of the church. It is for this reason that we are committed to feed the flock of God among us by a regular diet of systematic expository preaching.

We were to give papers at the opening conference of a new college devoted to the cause of universal peace and understanding, at Handegg. No two of the first students came from the same country. The speakers each represented a different country, too — Julie, the United States, me, Great Britain. We visited three magical places on our way. The first was Reichenau, the impregnable island now reached by a man-made spit of land, with its trio of Carolingian churches, the first of them covered in wall-paintings.

In February the second Voedsel Anders conference brought people together to build new connections and relationships within the food movement in the Netherlands, Belgium, and around the world, and to begin working towards a shared agenda and strategy for the movement. Over a thousand participants, some returning and some attending for the first time, gathered in Wageningen to discuss food system problems and solutions, plant the seeds of new ideas, build new connections, and grow the movement.

John Fullerton MacArthur Jr. MacArthur is a Reformed Protestant and a prominent representative of expository preaching. Army general Douglas MacArthur. On February 9, , he was hired as the third and youngest pastor at nondenominational Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California.
