Amplifier Worship is Boris's most intense and unrelenting album to date. Not for the faint of heart, the group incorporates mythic doom-drones, up-tempo psych-sludge and even a refreshing ribbit into their signature concoction of celestial and heavy music. Amplifier Worship is the second studio album by Japanese experimental band Boris. Released in November via indie label Mangrove the band maintained an abrasive sound of drone doom and sludge but interlacing elements of psychedelic, trance and a more up-tempo sound into their music. Amplifier Worship is also one of only a handful of Boris albums excluding the "one-long-song" albums to feature vocals on every track and the first album to feature Takeshi on lead vocals Though Atsuo handles lead vocals on "Huge". Boris would begin work on their second studio album in the fall of , writing and recording "Vomitself" at Sound Square and mixed at Inner Pleasure while the remaining tracks were recorded and mixed at Sound Crew.

Several months ago I went through a few week stretch of listening everything Amplifier had released and available to me. It's one of those bands that is very consistent in the quality of their output. Amplifier's signature sound and style is present in all of their albums and, if you like it, you will like each album to varying degrees. Their use of guitars instead of keys to create excellent soundscapes and their somewhat unique style of vocals and song structures result and something a little different than anything else out there. Echo Street may be my favourite from a prog perspective.
