After former National Football League player Jimmie Bell visited Oakview Elementary School in Muskegon Tuesday afternoon and encouraged students to pursue their dreams, no matter how many barriers may stand in their way, the children immediately launched into their plans for the future. Now a motivational speaker with Sports World , an organization that sends professional athletes to speak at schools across the country, Bell and fellow former professional football player Lee Rouson held about 16 events throughout Muskegon this week, including Bell giving talks at Oakview and Lakeside Elementary and Rouson speaking at Muskegon High School.
Despite the difficulties life brought his way, Bell told the hundreds of children gathered to hear him speak that he persevered and tried to never lose sight of his goals. Find something so big that you can focus on it. In addition to the principal, faculty and inspirational guest speakers championing the students, Loudermill emphasized Oakview pupils, and children throughout the Muskegon Public Schools system, would greatly benefit from additional funding from the state.
With Gov. Gretchen Whitmer saying she plans to increase funding for education in her upcoming budget, which is slated to be released March 5, Loudermill said she hopes that translates to greater financial backing for schools like Oakview.

For the past 42 years, our conference has been held in various cities across the United States and has the reputation for being a leading conference in speech-language pathology and audiology education. Faculty and staff in speech and hearing departments throughout the nation and abroad benefit from the opportunity to collaborate, connect, explore, and learn together about issues unique to our discipline. This year will be different. Canceling the conference last year was disappointing but necessary.

Stella Jane Young 24 February — 6 December was an Australian comedian, journalist and disability rights activist. Young was born in [3] at Stawell , Victoria. After graduating in , she worked for a time as a secondary school teacher. In a Ramp Up editorial published in July she deconstructed society's habit of turning disabled people into what she called " inspiration porn ". Having previously appeared in several comedy showcases and group shows, Stella made her festival debut as a solo performer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Her show Tales from the Crip , directed by Nelly Thomas , won her the award for best newcomer at the festival. In Young was inducted posthumously onto the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in recognition of her work as a "journalist, comedian, feminist and fierce disability activist".
Target Audience: Sworn public safety personnel. Pre-requisites: Participants must be able to pass the basic police recruit handgun qualification on day one to continue in the class. Those unable to do so will be asked to enroll in an IDC offered at a later date. There will be a single opportunity to complete the qualification first thing on day one.
