ATM to approach Speaker of Parliament on motion of no confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa

Published
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) says it will approach the Speaker of parliament to restart the process of the motion of no confidence that the party initiated against President Cyril Ramaphosa in February 2020. The ATM says this is in line with the Supreme Court of Appeal's Friday ruling (SCA) which set aside the decision of the Western Cape High Court which dismissed the party's application against former Speaker of the National Assembly Thandi Modise. Modise rejected the ATM's proposal to conduct a secret ballot on a motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa. The essence of the SCA's judgment emphasized that the discretion that Speakers have is not arbitrary but should be exercised rationally. Political commentator Oliver Dickson joins us virtually to share his perspective.
