MPs branded Boris Johnson a 'tin-pot dictator' and accused him of behaving like Vladimir Putin tonight - as the Commons Speaker warned that Parliament's standards commissioner must not be publicly undermined.
The PM was lambasted by Opposition politicians as the Commons kicked off an emergency debate on sleaze - which he has ducked saying he cannot get back from a visit to Northumberland in time.
Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle erupted at a Labour MP for calling Boris Johnson a 'tinpot dictator' during a debate about parliamentary standards.
The comment came only minutes after the Speaker had called for a mature debate. The Liberal Democrats, who secured the debate are calling for a statutory public inquiry into Boris Johnson's administration.
