Clean Up Your Electrical Power And Get Purer Sound From Your Audio

Published
We HiFi buffs love squeezing every ounce of performance out of our systems whether by upgrading our speaker cable, improving the isolation on our speakers or even conditioning the electricity that runs our amplifiers, turntables and streamers. So, throw away that cheap and nasty power strip and use something better to provide your audio setup with power. Atlas Cable is a specialized cable engineering company based in Kilmarnock, Scotland. I’ve reviewed the brand’s cables and interconnects before and the company makes well-made and relatively affordable cables of every type imaginable. Some people spend crazy sums of money on their audio cabling, but I often think it’s a question of diminishing returns. However, sensible investments in speaker cables, interconnects and power cabling can yield improved sound. Now Atlas Cables has produced an affordable range of power distribution blocks called the Eos Modular 2.5. The product has been designed to replace the cheap multiway power blocks that you might find on sale in a DIY store or your local supermarket. The Eos Modular 2.5 block is housed in an aluminum chassis and internally wired with 2.5mm² copper conductors. The high-quality wiring ensures unimpeded power transmission between the individual sockets with minimal resistive losses. But why would you want to pay out more than a few dollars for a power distribution block? Surely, all a power block is doing is supplying electricity to your audio or home theater setup… right? Wrong! Our homes are an electrically noisy soup that’s swamped with all kinds of interference from the various appliances in our homes. Fridges are notoriously noisy when it comes to interfering with the power circuits. The low-grade mains distribution blocks and power extension cords that many people use for their audio or home theater systems can contribute to a reduction in their performance. Some cheap power blocks have little or no shielding and often have noisy neon power indicators, fuse holders and low-grade wiring or busbars, all of which are points of potential weakness. You can read about some of the problems here. The Eos 2.5 is a robust, screened power extension block specially designed and built to provide unimpeded power to the components in any audio setup or home theater system. Housed in a highly conductive aluminum chassis, each power socket in the Eos 2.5 is optimized for low-contact resistance and minimal resistive losses. When used in conjunction with Atlas Cables’ Eos dd, Eos 4dd or Eos Superior screened mains cables, significant RFI screening is achieved. Rubber studs or conical spikes also provide an additional level of mechanical isolation or coupling, plus there’s an integral wall-mounting option.
