Do Guitar YouTubers Mislead Their Viewers? (How I Create Audio For Gear Demos)

Published
A lot of people have asked me to make an #AskPerky about how I record my audio for gear demos - which ties in with a recent thread over on The Gear Page all about YouTubers, and how nobody seems to trust what we're doing behind the scenes to 'enhance' our audio. Apparently, nobody ever demos gear with honest intentions: we're all "shills", working for the man, and only in it for the money. (If I'm only in this for the money, then I've chosen the wrong career.). Clearly all I'm trying to do is sell you products...even though I've bought most of them myself in the first place.

I can't speak for everybody - obviously. But what I can do is show you exactly what you're listening to when you click on one of my videos. Spoiler alert: I'm not using any fancy plugins to make things sound better than they really do. All you're hearing is four completely raw microphones coming out of your headphones, balanced out to give the most accurate representation of the sound I have here in this room. That's just about all I can do without inviting you all round to sit next to me, right?
