Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 On A "Budget" (LG C2, Shield TV, Hue Play Bars, Sony STR-DN 1080 AVR)

Published
Trying to improve my movie and gaming setup without going bankrupt! With the better OLED TV/monitor, I wanted better sound too by adding a modest Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 setup. A quick test with the Blockbuster movie Top Gun: Maverick it is then, with Dolby Atmos audio track...alas the mic won't do the setup justice.

LG C2 42" 4K OLED TV (also used as PC monitor) with Nvidia's Shield TV 2015 model (Workaround for the LG C2 not supporting DTS audio tracks)

2 Philips Hue Play Bars and 4 colour ceiling bulbs sync'd to TV with the Hue Essentials app on STV.

Sony STR-DN 1080 A/V Receiver, 7 channels for Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 Surround sound.

Vintage KEF Coda II speakers for L,C,R channels (L&R are currently having their crossovers modded by me, so 100W Kenwood 3 ways are stand in replacements)

LTC Audio SSP501F-W extra flat wall mount speakers, for side surround and height channels & Edifier T5 8 inch Subwoofer (Sub off in test so not to annoy the neighbours!).

Winwing's Orion 2 F18 Throttle on show, as this doubles up as a "sim pit", not just a home cinema system. Roll on next year for Multithreaded support in DCS to help improve VR performance for "flying" these military jets!
