Don't Make This Mistake! | Instrument Cables vs Speaker Cables

Instrument cables and speaker cables aren't the same, but that doesn't mean they don't get used interchangeably by accident. This can definitely lead to problems, like noise in amps, sound systems, and recording equipment. If you connect your instrument to an amp, DI, or mixer with a speaker cable, it's not so much a question of if there will be audio noise, but just how bad the noise will be. It will be much more susceptible to noise and can vary from moment to moment, or gig to gig. Musicians and sound techs need to be aware of these cable issues and properly identify the cables to ensure clean, noise-free operation of amps and sound systems. This applies to the studio as well.

System cable interconnection is an important part of any band, studio, or sound system setup. This is true at all levels and venues. Whether it's a touring band, a cover band, a home studio, or the praise band at your church the goal should be the music, not unwanted noise.
