Fender Telecaster: Deluxe....Standard.... A Comparison

Published
Let’s make no bones about this: the Fender Telecaster is without doubt one of the most important inventions of the 20th Century, along with the Citroen DS (I had one!), the aeroplane (I don’t have one) and the computer (I have one).

The Telecaster was introduced in 1950. 1950. That’s 72 years ago. The design remains pretty much unchanged. That’s how good it is...

However, towards the end of the 1960s, rock music became heavier sounding, and as such Fender had to keep up with the market that Gibson really dominated in heavy rock. The answer? The Telecaster Deluxe of 1972. Although it didn’t supersede the standard Telecaster (indeed the deluxe lasted only into the 1980s before being reissued years later), it had a sound all of its own, and you’ll hear that in this video!
