INSTALL AUX SWITCHES IN YOUR BRONCO? WATCH THIS FIRST BEFORE YOU WASTE $700+

CAN YOU ADD AUX SWITCHES TO A BRONCO WITHOUT AUX SWITCHES?

In short - yes. Will the Aux switches work once you pull off your panels, run a harness from the firewall, up the left pillar, across the header, and down the other pillar? NO.

Let me explain. Ok, so you run a harness (purchased separately because it doesn’t come with the vehicle unless you select the $195 Aux switch option), but you have to replace the overhead console (where the sunglass holder is) with an entirely NEW piece with the aux switches already in it.

Ok, so you get the wires hooked up to the switches and plug the harness up and you get pretty lights on the aux switches meaning they have power. You think you are good to go. WRONG!

What you have at this point are pretty light up switches that do absolutely nothing… but look cool. If you hook up a light source of any kind, they will not light up your world.

Let’s dive deeper. Let’s investigate the Fuse Box. Take pictures before pulling out fuses (which we discovered was an unnecessary step). It does come apart (carefully) as you see in the video. There’s a harness going in from the far end, and the end towards the battery (by the way disconnect that BEFORE messing with the fuse box. Heaven forbids you short circuit the vehicle!). So don’t be yanking and pulling on your box. Things can go sideways quickly if you do.

So when you pop the cover off the fuse box, you see a multitude of fuses in it. The spots the Aux switches SHOULD have fuses in - don’t. In fact there’s no internal connectors for a fuse to grab onto should you drop one in. Thus, you will NOT have power to the pretty lights you spent money on.

Can the fuse box internals be swapped with one that is equipped with aux? We do not know. Can you replace the internals separately and add the ones for auxs? Again, we do not know. We tore into our box as much as we felt comfortable doing.

If you DO NOT feel comfortable disassembling the electronic components of ANY sort in the vehicle, DO NOT DO IT. If you put it back together wrong, you can throw things out of sorts. That would suck.

So what did we learn? You CAN add Aux switches to the non-equipped bronco. They WILL light up all pretty and such. But they will NOT work because the fuse box is missing the internals to operate the Aux switches. So you have Christmas tree lights with no functionality. Can the box be replaced, we don’t know. Can the inners be replaced? We do not know.

We will continue to look into the matter further and will inform you of any discoveries we come across.
