Lawmakers vote on a new House speaker as 118th Congress convenes — 01/03/2023

The 118th Congress will convene on Tuesday and the first item on the House's agenda will be choosing a new speaker.

It is expected that Republicans will nominate House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The House cannot proceed to any other business until the Speaker is chosen.
