Miking Up Guitar Amps

Although we have many digital emulations of guitar amps, more subtle and more combinations of sounds may be obtained with physical amplifiers and microphones.

Here, my trusty Fender Blues Deluxe is miked up using:

Shure SM58 (dynamic, cardioid)
Sennheiser E609 (dynamic, hyper-cardioid)
AKG C414 (condenser, set to cardioid)
Coles 4038 (ribbon, figure of 8/bi-directional)

A stereo ambient pair, 6ft (2m) away from the amplifier, a pair of AKG C3000 (condenser, cardioid) is used and blended in as on the video.

Watch out for phasing issues if using ambient mics!
