Pye Black Box valve / tube Record Player from 1955 - Restoration part 1

I bought this old record player thinking it would be good for parts. It seems to be a bit better quality than the average portable record player with a push-pull output and decent speakers so I decided it might be worth fixing up instead. It's a Pye Black Box model BBH made in 1955, so it's the same age as me but in better condition! Hopefully I can make it work.
I'm not sure whether to keep the cabinet original or to paint it. Tell me what you think.
