In the summer of1890, theatre manager Bram Stoker went on holiday in the North Sea town of Whitby. He came home to London and wrote the most terrifying novel of all time. Dracula is not the first story about a vampire but it is the most famous, establishing all the trappings of vampirism that entered cultures worldwide. The award-winning play Stoker's Guest imagines a fateful encounter that inspires Dracula. This audio recording of the October 30, 2022 staged reading by the company of the Western Door Playhouse in Niagara Falls, NY, is accompanied by pictures of Bram Stoker, various images of Dracula from books and film, Vlad Dracul the Impaler (who inspired the novel's title and main character), the town of Whitby, Stoker's wife Florence (known for her beauty), his employer Sir Henry Irving, his friend and rival for Florence's affections Oscar Wilde, and other images from the Victorian Age.
