Surround Sound Upmixer History & Comparisons w Roger Dressler of Dolby Labs

Audioholics is honored to have Roger Dressler, formerly of Dolby Laboratories, as our livestream guest for 3/6/22 @ 10pm EST. Roger Dressler joined Dolby Laboratories in 1982, just in time for the introduction of its first consumer Dolby Surround system. During his 25-year tenure, Roger helped Dolby develop and license Dolby Headphone (Lake DSP), Pro Logic II (Fosgate), and MLP Lossless and TrueHD (Meridian Audio), and to get its coding technologies adopted in DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats.

Roger will discuss the history of surround upmixers, their limitations, and the changes going from Dolby Prologic II to the Dolby Surround Upmixer. Roger will discuss some of what led up to the adoption of Fosgate's technology as PLII over Citation 6-Axis and Lexicon Logic7, to build upon Paul Scarpelli's article.
