Vintage eBay 1960s Tom & Jerry 'Jack in the Box' Not Working - Can I FIX it?

Here we have a vintage 1960s Tom & Jerry Music Box toy purchased faulty from eBay. Tom no longer pops out when the handle is cranked. What mechanism is inside this toy. Can it be repaired or will the tin box have to be cut open?
