What Happened When CRAIG CAR AUDIO Made HIFI in the 1970's?

Published
What Happened when the BIGGEST manufacturer of car audio in the 1970'sgot into the HiFi business? The Craig 5501 Receiver retailed at $239.95 in 1975. It came in at 17 watts per channel. It has .9% total harmonic distortion. And features a beautiful blue tuning dial. The front display features a unique slanted top half, also seen on some of Akai’s receivers. The 5501 features two sets of speakers, your main speakers, and remote speakers, which using the matrix switch can work with quad sound. The 5501 features Bass and Treble tone controls, and a loudness switch. Next to the loudness switch the 5501 features a tape monitor switch and FM muting. Inputs on the 5501 include one tape monitor, one phono and one aux. Which oddly enough this may be one of the only receivers in recent memory which spells out auxiliary on the panel and in the indicator display. Next to the tuning dial is an AM/FM Signal meter, and speaking of radio broadcasting this receiver features FM Mon, FM Multiplex, and AM options.
