Whats inside of a Vintage tube amp aluminum Filter Capacitor Lets disassemble and inspect

Published
Have you ever wondered whats inside of that old filter cap? Why are the new ones so expensive?
What causes them to fail? Well here is your inside view. They are actually a fragile device. The positive tabs are thin aluminum that is crimped to the bottom solder tabs. The ground connection is a spring clip that is trapped between the negative aluminum end and Can. When I smelled the ground end, it reminded me of hot brake pads. No signs of arching, but if it did, that might produce what we refer to as a pregnant cap? I'm not sure if the electrolyte is toxic, but restricted my contact with it.
