Why do (some) radio/antenna coils look like braided?

Published
The video tells everything, say “sloppy” winding (braided wiring) has a substantial (read: good) effect to diminish the “natural capacitance” between the coil windings of a radio coil or whatever coil in the low frequency band: 20 KC-300 KC.

That is, of course, more/most important when the radio or other electronic frequency to be used is (say) low (20 KC-300 KC) and we have to need a lot of windings (e.g. 300 windings ape hair on a ferrite rod of 10-20 cm long and 0,9 cm diameter or 1 cm diameter) to get to a specific low frequency.

That ferrite rod (say ceramic) material must be made for these low frequencies (MW-LW), in general that is no problem and you can find them easily.

Keeping the “natural capacitance” low means that the resonance peak will be better, because a high L factor (=coil windings) and a low C factor (small parallel capacitor) gives in general a better Q (Quality factor) in a L-C setup where the C bridges the Coil. (C=capacitance and L= inductance).

Quality factor means a high resonance frequency peak to the frequency to which the coil is tuned.

Correction to the video: on 4.42 I say “there is a natural inductance” but of course I mean “”there is a natural capacitance” (!). Logical in the explanations.

My You Tube channel trailer is here: https://youtu.be/xbgQ8T3oqh4 When you search, search always “NEWEST FIRST” to get the right overview. You can also search via the “looking glass” on my Channel trailer via keywords like ”audio”, “radio”, “amplifier”, “filter”, “Shortwave”, “transistor”, “FET”, “oscillator”, “generator”, “switch”, “schmitt trigger” etc; so the electronic subject you are interested in.

My books about electronics & analog radio technology are available via the website of "LULU”, search for author “Ko Tilman” there.

I keep all my YT videos constant actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on YouTube.

Search there, and avoid my circuits that are republished, re-arranged, re-edited on other websites, giving not probable re-wiring, etc. Some persons try to find gold via my circuits. I take distance from all these fake claims. I can not help that these things happen. Upload 1 december 2021.
